ANCIENT NESEBAR MUSEUM

Archaeological museum in Nesebar is created in 1956 and its first exposition was in St. John the Baptist church.

In 1994 the museum was moved in a new building, constructed on a special project of architect Hristo Koev. An exposition “Nesebar during the Ages” there containing numerous cultural monuments, presents the history of Antic Messambria and Medieval Nesebar - Tracian stone anchors and stocks, funeral stone plastic arts, Greek black figured ceramic. The collections of gold adornment and medieval sgraffito ceramic impress deeply.
The exhibition area of the museum includes a lounge and four exhibition halls. Each hall presents Nesebar through different historical periods:

    First Hall – "Mesembria and the Thracians"

    Second Hall – "The Pontic Polis Mesambria"

    Third Hall – "Mesembria within the Borders of Rome, Byzantium, and Bulgaria"

    Fourth Hall – "Icon Hall"

A diploma certifying the entry of Old Nesebar in the list of World cultural heritage is on the wall of the lounge. This act was accomplished December 9th, 1983 on the VII session of the Committee of World Heritage, hold in Florence, Italy.
The Museum also offers combined tickets for visiting several sites, including the churches. Guided tour services and panoramic walks are available upon request.
